General Embed Setup & Troubleshooting

Learn how to check and optimize your involve.me embeds

Written by Megan

Embedding the content you create with involve.me is a great way to enhance your website or blog. In some cases, an embed may need a small adjustment to display or behave exactly as expected.

This article covers the most common embed scenarios and the steps you can take to check, optimize, and resolve them.

First steps to check your embed

Whenever an embed needs attention, we recommend starting with these general checks first. They often help you confirm whether the embed is already working correctly or whether a setup adjustment is needed.

  • Publish the website to test the live version
Preview mode may not always allow the embed to work exactly as it does on the published website. Publishing the page helps you check the real experience participants will see. You can read more about this here.

  • Use the recommended embed method for your website builder
Check this article for instructions on how to embed your funnel on different website builders. If your website builder is not listed, you can review your website builder’s documentation for embedding elements onto your website. Using the correct method helps create a smoother embed experience.

  • Use an involve.me plug-in when available

Using an available plug-in can also help with embed setup.

If these steps do not resolve the behavior you are seeing, keep reading to find the section that matches your specific embed scenario.

Embed display is cut off

Sometimes the box or container where the embed is placed has fixed dimensions or does not resize dynamically.

Each website builder handles this differently, but most website builders allow you to set the height and width of the embed. In this case, increasing the size of the container can help the full embed appear correctly.

If the container does not resize dynamically, you can try turning off the Dynamic height resize option when setting up your embed in involve.me. Then, set a specific funnel height that matches the container height.

This keeps the funnel at a consistent height and helps the full embed remain visible when it would otherwise try to resize.

Embed needs more space or does not respond as expected

In some cases, the embed may appear unresponsive or may not take up as much space on the page as expected.

This can happen when checking the embed in preview mode. Some preview modes do not load external JavaScript, because doing so may create a state where the script cannot be removed anymore.

The best way to confirm how the embed works is to publish the page instead of relying only on preview mode.

If you do not want users to access the page with the embed, you can place it on a website page that is not linked anywhere. This allows you to test the embed in the live environment while keeping the page private from regular visitors.

Sad smiley face error in Google Chrome

This error can happen when you are using a website optimization plug-in, such as WP Rocket or Nitro CDN.

In many cases, you can add the involve.me domain, or your own domain if you are using a custom domain, to the plug-in exceptions so it is not cached.

If the optimization plug-in is causing the behavior, adding the domain to the exceptions should resolve it.

Embed code is not showing or is being adjusted by the website

If your embed does not appear on the website, or something similar happens, the website may be adding a sandbox property to iframes.

When this happens, the embed code is altered, which can affect how it works.

In this case, you can try using Iframely to generate a different embed code for your funnel and check whether that version works on your website.

Please note that this new embed will have limited features.

Embedding a funnel inside an email

Embedding a funnel directly inside an email is not possible.

The embed codes provided by involve.me are iframes, and iframes are not currently supported by most email providers. Dynamic content like this also typically does not work inside email, because email does not function the same way as a web page.

As an alternative, you can recreate the first page of your form inside the email and then redirect the participant to the actual form.

You can read more about this method in this article.
