You can add participants automatically to your Mailchimp lists using the native MailChimp integration.

If you want to test the integration before committing to a paid plan, you can do so by registering for a free 14-day trial.

Not entirely sure how to set up the integration? Make sure to learn about it in our dedicated article first.

Connecting the Integration

You can connect the integration either by navigating to the "Integrations" tab in the navbar or by opening the dropdown menu of your funnel's card and selecting "Connect" - then just click "Connect" on Mailchimp's card.

In order to connect the integration, you'll need to login to your Mailchimp account first.

Once you have logged in, you'll need to authorize involve.me to connect to your Mailchimp account. Just click "Allow" and you'll be all set.

After authorizing involve.me to access your account, you'll be able to see the Mailchimp connection you just created.

Data Mapping for the Mailchimp Integration

The integration will send the participant's email and default properties automatically, however you can add more fields to be sent. In order for your list/audience to accept more data, please configure your "Audience fields and *|MERGE|* tags" accordingly.

Once the integration has been connected to your funnel, you'll find the button "Manage Custom Fields" on the funnel's integration settings, which is where you can map the involve.me fields to the integration fields.

In order to map involve.me fields to Mailchimp fields, you just need to pick your involve.me field first, and then pick the Mailchimp field that should get that data, and so on.

For more information on mapping please see this article here.

Tags

involve.me submissions can not only create custom fields but also assign tags in MailChimp automatically.

In your funnel's integrations setup under the “Manage Tags & Custom Fields” button, you can turn on tags for different kinds of submission data:

  • Outcomes

  • Funnel name

  • Answers from questions

  • When an opt-in checkbox was ticked

Tags will allow you to trigger different actions in your MailChimp account or help you organize incoming data. Please be aware that in order to have tags set you do not need to also setup custom fields, they can be used independently.

Good to know

  • Make sure you choose the right field types or your integration may not work.

  • Custom properties on existing contacts will be updated when the same email is sent again.

  • If an email address was already on your list, it cannot be subscribed again (even if deleted).

  • Emails with test formats like test@test.com are ignored by MailChimp, and stop the integration from being triggered.

  • If you have configured a MailChimp integration on a funnel and you duplicate said funnel, your integration settings will duplicate as well.

If you have any trouble setting up this integration, please contact us and if possible send us a screenshot of this page from your MailChimp dashboard:

Account > Extras > API keys > Last 24 hours of API calls.

Opt-in Checkbox, Double Opt-In and GDPR

In order to be fully GDPR compliant, you will need to tick the option "Only trigger integration when opt-in checkbox element was selected" on your integration's settings and add a dedicated opt-in checkbox that sends data over to the integration, from your involve.me funnel.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to set it up.

When editing the integration's settings, you can also optionally choose to activate Double Opt-In which sends out a confirmation email that needs to be clicked before your participant is added to the audience (you can change the content of this email in Mailchimp).

If GDPR is of no concern to you, then you can skip this step.

Testing Your Integration

Once the integration has been set up and connected to your funnel, it will be time to test it in order to ensure everything is working as intended, learn how to do it here.
