You can add participants automatically to your ActiveCampaign lists using the native ActiveCampaign integration.

If you want to test the integration before committing to a paid plan, you can do so by registering for a free 14-day trial.

Not entirely sure how to set up the integration? Make sure to learn about it in our dedicated article first.

Connecting the Integration

You can connect the integration either by navigating to the "Integrations" tab in the navbar or by opening the dropdown menu of your funnel's card and selecting "Connect" - then just click "Connect" on ActiveCampaign's card.

In order to connect the integration, start by entering an Internal Connection Name, then enter your ActiveCampaign API Key and URL.

Note: Your ActiveCampaign URL needs to start with "https://" otherwise the error message "The connection data is not valid" will be shown and you will not be able to create the connection.

Once you have connected integration, you'll be able to see the name of your connection and the email of the ActiveCampaign account you're using.

Double Opt-In Confirmation

The current version of ActiveCampaign's API does not directly trigger the double opt-in confirmation via the Form ID that was stored, as the old version did. But you can still recreate this behavior by using an automation for the double opt-in confirmation.

ℹ️ An easy way to trigger an automation is to use tags. These can be tags that you manually added in ActiveCampaign, or that were added by the ActiveCampaign integration with involve.me

Data Mapping for the ActiveCampaign Integration

The integration will send email and default properties automatically.

In order for your list to accept more data, make sure to create custom fields in ActiveCampaign accordingly.

Once the integration has been connected to your funnel, you'll find the button "Manage Custom Fields" on the funnel's integration settings, which is where you can map the involve.me fields to the integration fields.

Default Custom Fields That Are Already Predefined by Activecampaign

  • Email

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Phone

  • Job Title

Default Custom Fields That Need to Be Created Beforehand

If you want to receive data for the below fields, then you'll need to create them in ActiveCampaign exactly as shown in the column "ActiveCampaign Fields".

The % signs are automatically added by ActiveCampaign, so you don't need to input them.

Data From Question Elements

Any other collected data fields (eg. from multiple choice elements, free text inputs, sliders, opt-in checkboxes, etc,) can be mapped through "custom field mapping".

Tags

involve.me submissions can not only create custom fields but also assign tags in ActiveCampaign automatically.

In your funnel's integrations setup under the “Manage Tags & Custom Fields” button, you can turn on tags for different kinds of submission data:

  • Outcomes

  • Funnel name

  • Answers from questions

  • When an opt-in checkbox was ticked

Tags will allow you to trigger different actions in your ActiveCampaign account or help you organize incoming data. Please be aware that in order to have tags set you do not need to also setup custom fields, they can be used independently.

Good to Know

  • When creating a custom field for the checkbox, make sure it is type "Text Input". Setting it to type "Checkbox" will not work. If the checkbox was ticked, you will get the value "1" and if it was not ticked you will get the value "0" zero.

  • Make sure you choose the right field names & types or your integration may not work!

  • If the subscriber is in an inactive state or has previously been unsubscribed or added to the suppression list, they will be re-added to the list. Also custom fields on existing contacts on the list will be updated.

  • If you have configured an ActiveCampaign integration on a funnel and you duplicate said funnel, your integration settings will duplicate as well.

Opt-in Checkbox and GDPR

In order to be fully GDPR compliant, you will need to tick the option "Only trigger integration when opt-in checkbox element was selected" on your integration's settings and add a dedicated opt-in checkbox that sends data over to the integration, from your involve.me funnel.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to set it up.

If GDPR is of no concern to you, then you can skip this step.

Testing Your Integration

Once the integration has been set up and connected to your funnel, it will be time to test it in order to ensure everything is working as intended, learn how to do it here.
